About Valley Moon Acupuncture Clinic

Meet Hiroshi Ishii-Adajar
Founder and Licensed Acupuncturist
Dr. Hiroshi Ishii-Adajar received his degree as a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine from Five Branches University in San Jose, CA. He is a licensed acupuncturist in Guam as well as California, and also holds a Diploma of Oriental Medicine from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Before coming to Guam, he treated patients at the Five Branches Clinic and Akiyama Wellness Center in San Jose. His clinical training includes hands-on internships with hospital acupuncturists from mainland China, herbalists from Taiwan, acupuncture/moxibustion specialists from Japan, and practitioners who learned acupuncture from Buddhist monks. Previously, Hiroshi worked as a program coordinator at the Contemplation By Design program at Stanford University, where he also received his B.S. in Mathematics.
Hiroshi was born in Japan but grew up in Plano, TX. Hiroshi’s journey into traditional medicine started during his college years when he saw a Tibetan medical doctor in Nepal who, after only taking his pulse, could guess many things about his health, such as the fact that his feet were always cold. He became curious as to how she could know that, and before long, he began seeking to learn more and to receive treatment from practitioners of various modalities. Finally, an acupuncturist remarked that since he was spending so much time learning about medicine, he might as well become a health practitioner himself.
His approach to medicine is informed by the wisdom traditions of Asia which emphasize the interconnectedness of all aspects of our being – our body and mind, our ancestral/social/cultural community, the land, and cycles of time. By regulating the relationships between all of these, we can support enduring shifts in our health and our lives. His hope for the clinic is to be able to share the profound healing possibilities of these traditions with the Guam community.
Hiroshi came to Guam with his wife, who was born and raised on Guam. They realized that if they wanted to start a family, Guam was an excellent option. They now have a healthy and happy one-year-old son. Hiroshi also has a deep interest in learning more about local CHamoru traditions of medicine and culture, which he believes are rooted in the same holistic view as East Asian medicine.
Outside the clinic, Hiroshi enjoys spending time with his wife and son, and can be found gardening or lounging with the family’s two cats.
